As a school we are very pleased to be working with Compass Changing Lives. The team provides prevention and early intervention emotional wellbeing and mental health support to Children, Young People and Families (CYPFs) across Derby & Derbyshire.
Who are they?
Changing Lives comprises of two distinct services, Mental Health Support Teams and an Early intervention and Targeted Support Service, working collaboratively to provide a comparable offer across the County. The MHST provision works out of Centres of Excellence in Derby City, Glossop, Ilkeston, Erewash, Bolsover, Chesterfield, Bakewell, Swanwick and South Derbyshire, to support surrounding schools, and the Early Intervention Targeted Support Service provides support across the county and city to areas not covered by the MHST.
Their role is to help support children and young people’s mental health. They provide a free and confidential emotional health and wellbeing support for children and young people with mild to moderate emotional health and wellbeing needs.
They provide support to children and young people aged 5-18 years, and up to 25 years for those leaving care or with Special Education Needs or Disability.
They also provide parent and carer support to parents and carers around improving their knowledge and understanding of how best to support and improve their child’s mental health and wellbeing.
What can they do to help?
They help you build your skills to cope with: Low mood; sadness, low motivation; mild to moderate anxiety; worries, irrational fears and concerns; common challenging behaviours: angry outbursts, pushing boundaries, frustration and distress; family and peer relationship difficulties; difficulty adjusting to change and transition; difficulty managing emotions.
They provide a range of evidenced based interventions for children and young people. These will be in group settings, or in some instances 1:1, and will usually be around 6-8 sessions based on what you need.
