Absence
Reigate Park Primary School believe that good attendance is vital to good personal progress. Ongoing low attendance is a factor often linked to low levels of attainment. Many pupils have difficulty maintaining friendships if they have long or numerous periods of absence. It is a parent’s legal responsibility to ensure their child attends school. Regular unauthorised absence, or taking unauthorised holidays, could lead to a Penalty Notice, which is a fine of £120 per adult per child. An unpaid fine can lead to prosecution.
For this reason we do not authorise holidays taken during term time, without exception. Should you choose to take a holiday during term time you can inform us using the form below. This is also available from the school office.
Other absences such as shopping, family illness, over sleeping and living a distance from school are not viewed as acceptable reasons for absence and will be recorded as unauthorised.
Look at the table below which shows the impact of poor attendance;

Schools are also expected to maintain a record of lateness. Lateness after 9.15am and 1.20pm are recorded as an unauthorised absence.
At Reigate Park we reward good and outstanding attendance. We have joined with a charity, Aquainas Foundation, who has kindly donated 3 bikes to the school for us to give to 3 lucky winners. Therefore every term all children who have 100% attendance go into a prize draw to win one of the bikes. Well done to Seth and Oliver who were our winners last academic year.
Schools must know the reason for every absence and record this within their registers. It is helpful for us to receive this information before 10am on the first day of your child’s absence. There are several ways you can inform us:
-
By telephoning school stating your child’s name, class and reason for absence. Our telephone number is 01332 298969. Please follow the directions on the voicemail to leave your message.
-
By sending a text message to 07504 079206 stating your child’s name, class and reason for absence.
- By emailing june.bosworth@reigatepark.derby.sch.uk stating your child’s name, class and reason for absence. Please note that this email address is monitored for the purposes of reporting absence only and should not be used for other queries.
