Week 1 Spring 1

This week, classes have been learning about Deaf Awareness and discussing how we can be deaf aware to support our friends and parents in school. 

The children were able to share their ideas and understanding of what they could do in different situations. 

In Nursery and Reception, we have talked about photos and stories and how we need to speak clearly.  The children know that they can tap their deaf friends’ shoulders to get their attention and use gesture to help them understand if they don’t know the signs.

In other classes we have discussed lip reading and realised how hard it is to understand! 

We have also discussed the school’s BSL Charter and why it is so important to follow. 

All the children shared their own ideas and used previous learning to help them be caring and inclusive friends.
