Talented T-Rex Summer 1 Week 6
Date: 20th May 2026 @ 6:43pm
Take a look at our learning this week 🦖..
Maths
This week in Maths we have been learning all about time. The children have been practising reading o’clock and half‑past and thinking about seconds, minutes and hours. We have also been exploring position and direction, using words such as forwards, backwards, left and right. On Wednesday we celebrated Numeracy Day and solved money problems to help Rusty the Robot. The children worked brilliantly to figure out the best way for Rusty to buy different different equipment.
English
In English we have been writing our final pieces about our imaginary schools. The children have come up with some wonderfully creative ideas, describing what their schools would look like and what special things they would include. They have worked hard to use descriptive language to bring their ideas to life.
Topic
In Topic we have been learning about how Victorian times compare to today, especially in the local area of Derby. We looked at old photographs and maps to see how much the city has changed. The children noticed that there used to be more fields and open spaces, and that today there are more shops, more roads and many more buildings. We also learned that Derby once had a tram system. It began with horse‑drawn trams in 1880 and later became an electric tramway, running until 1934. The tramlines have now disappeared and have been replaced by modern transport such as buses and cars.
