Talented T-Rex Autumn Term Week 4
Date: 24th Sep 2025 @ 7:19pm
Take a look at our learning this week 🦖...
What a fantastic week we've had in T-Rex Class!
Maths
In Maths, we have been focusing on the skill of counting on. We started with counting cubes and counters to help us work out simple addition problems. As we grew more confident, we moved on to using a number line to help us jump forward from a given number.
A big part of our learning has been remembering to put the bigger number in our big brain and then counting on the smaller number. The children have really taken to this strategy, and we are becoming super speedy with our counting on – well done T-Rexes!
English
In English this week, we have been continuing our work on the features of a home. This week, the children used their imaginations to create and label their very own imaginary homes.
To help us with our labels, we used our phoneme mats to find the sounds we needed to spell tricky words. This was great practice as we get ready for writing full sentences next week!
Topic
This week in Topic, we've been learning all about different types of shelters. We explored the materials used to build them and discussed their properties e.g like being waterproof, strong, or warm. The children thought carefully about why shelters are important, understanding that they help keep people (and animals!) safe and protected from the weather.
The highlight of the week was definitely when the children got to design and build their own shelters for pets! Using a range of construction kits, they worked creatively to plan and build shelters that were not only practical but also very imaginative. We saw everything from cosy cat houses to rabbit hideouts!
