Summer 1, Week 2 blog
Date: 24th Apr 2026 @ 3:59pm
English: This week in English, we learned some important skills to help us write a diary entry. We learned about fronted adverbials (ways to begin sentences e.g Before battle, Early in the morning,) and emotive language (how emotions were conveyed). As a class, we wrote a diary entry pretending to be commander Gauis of the Roman army the night before the battle with Boudicca. We put all our skills to the test and came up with some great ideas.
Maths: This week, we recapped multiplication. We began by recapping the long multiplication method to answer 2 digit x 1 digit questions e.g 37 x 5. The children then practised answering multiplication worded problems, using either mental maths strategies or the long multiplication method.
History: The children learned more information about the life of a Roman soldier. They enjoyed finding out about how they were organised into legions, cohorts and centuries. They also had a closer look at what they wore and how they protected themselves in battle. The children also began to look at some of the earlier Roman invasions of Britain. They then learned about Boudicca and why she rebelled and fought against the Roman army.
PSHE: The children are going to be focusing on a unit on diversity this half term. The first second lesson was discussing our families and why they were important to us. The children created a family tree and wrote descriptive words underneath to reflect why that person was important to them e.g caring, hardworking, loving.
R.E: This week the children have continued to learn about celebration of festivals. They recapped the Christmas and Easter story and discussed the significance of both of these celebrations. They also looked at the key symbols and rituals related to Christmas and Easter.
