Summer 2 Week 2

Date: 12th Jun 2025 @ 2:30pm

In English this week, the children have been practising key skills that they will need when writing a Roman myth. The have practised writing speech using inverted commas and they have experimented with using interesting ‘said’ words. They have used a Thesaurus to help them up-level adjective and verb choices when describing mythical creatures and how the hero conquers them.

In Maths this week, the children have been learning about fractions. They learned how to add and subtract fractions e.g 1/5 + 2/5 = 3/5, remembe4ring that the denominator (bottom number in the fraction) stays the same. They also learned strategies to help them find equivalent fractions and they learned how to find a fraction of an amount, using bus stop division to support when dividing.

In Science, the children learned about pollination. They chose a research question to discover more about pollination e.g why bees are essential for pollination and how they carry pollen. The children began a new mini project called ‘Light and Shadows’. The children explored sources of light – natural and artificial light. Ask your child if they can tell you some examples of each!

In PSHE, the children learned about some coping strategies to support them when feeling sad about loss or separation. They designed a ‘thankful’ jar and wrote down what they were thankful for. They also added pictures to a ‘memory board’ to help them remember happy times spent with family, friends and pets.

In BSL, the children learned the signs for the four seasons, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter and in Computing, the children have continued to work on Microsoft powerpoint to add slides, stock images and text.

Please support your child by reading at home and recording this in their reading diary. Please remind your child to charge their iPad at home every evening so it’s ready to be used at school for different subjects.
