Summer 2 Week 2

Date: 11th Jun 2026 @ 9:21am

Our Year 5 pupils have been working hard towards their BSL 101 exam. This marks an important milestone in their learning journey, where they not only develop their understanding of British Sign Language but also gain valuable communication skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

As part of their preparation for the BSL 101 exam, pupils have been practising basic conversation skills. This includes:

  • Greeting others politely
  • Introducing themselves
  • Asking and answering simple questions
  • Using facial expressions effectively to convey meaning
  • Taking turns and maintaining a natural flow in dialogue

At this stage, the emphasis is not just on remembering individual signs but on putting them together in meaningful exchanges.  To build confidence, pupils have been practising in pairs and small groups, simulating real-life conversations.

As the BSL 101 exam approaches, the focus is shifting towards refining skills and boosting confidence under exam conditions. Pupils are practising structured conversations and learning how to stay calm and focused.

The exam itself is not just a test of memory—it is a celebration of everything they have learned about communication, respect, and inclusion.

We are incredibly proud of their progress and can’t wait to see them shine in their BSL 101 exam!
