Summer 2 - Week 1
Date: 6th Jun 2025 @ 9:07am
This week, the children had lots of fun exploring our new writing topic about Roman Myths. They looked at pictures of Mythical creatures and used interesting adjectives to describe them. They also read some myths including ‘The 12 trials of Hercules’ and ‘Theseus and the Minotaur’. The children then unpicked what features made a myth exciting to read and explored new and imaginative vocabulary.
In Maths, the children recapped multiplication and division. They explored strategies to help them find the answers to multiplication worded problems and also recapped how to use bus stop division when solving division questions involving larger numbers.
In Science, the children learned about the parts of a flowering plant and discussed their functions. Quiz your child to see if they remember the functions of a plant’s roots, stem and leaves? We then set up an experiment to see if we could see the vessels in a vascular plant. The children put sticks of celery into a beaker of food dye and water. Firstly, they made predictions about what would happen and then they observed the changes each day, taking pictures. The children also learned about the life cycle of a plant, using words like germination and seedling.
In BSL, the children recapped counting to 30 and practised signing their birthday and how old they are.
In PSHE, the children discussed the meaning of ‘loss’ and ‘separation’ and lots of children shared their experiences about losing someone/something they loved. We read a wonderful story called ‘The Invisible String’ which explored how loved ones are always connected to us via an invisible string of love and we also discussed other strategies to help us handle times of sadness.
In Computing, we have been looking at how to make presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint on our iPads to display information.
What a busy week! Well done everyone!
