Summer 1, Week 6 blog
Date: 22nd May 2026 @ 2:59pm
English: This week in English, the children have been busy writing their own newspaper reports about a Roman artefact that was discovered at school. They have used speech to relay information from the eyewitnesses and have used super adjectives and verbs when recounting events. They then copied these articles onto special paper using their best handwriting.
Maths: This week, we recapped measurement. The children learned how to measure length and height and used this to calculate the perimeter of 2D shapes. They also recapped how to read scales to help them answer questions about capacity and mass.
History: The children learned about the features and uses of the Roman site of Letocetum based near Staffordshire. They located this on a map and discussed how close it was to us in Derby. The children completed their final history lesson on Romans and learnt all about the Roman withdrawal. They discussed the causes of the withdrawal and how it impacted Britain.
R.E: This week the children have learnt about celebrations at home, in the community and in place of worship. Thy discussed the importance of the celebrations in each of these categories.
PSHE: This week, the children learned about stereotypes. They learned that it happens when some people have the wrong ideas or beliefs about other people. We discussed some common stereotypes e.g. ‘girls shouldn’t play football’ and the children had fun exploring these in more detail by finding examples where people had stood against these stereotypes.
