Summer 1 Week 4

Date: 15th May 2025 @ 12:56pm

In English this week, the children have been learning about newspaper reports in more detail. They read examples of a newspaper report and spotted different features like the headline and speech. They also learned about how reporters use the 5Ws (who, where, what, why, when) in their introduction paragraphs to help them recount all the important information.

In Maths, the children recapped turns and angles and shape this week. They recapped using language like clockwise, anticlockwise, quarter turn, half turn and three-quarters of a turn when answering questions. They looked at different angles and labelled them as acute angles, right angles or obtuse angles. The children also explored horizontal, parallel, perpendicular and parallel lines for the first time. Ask your child if they can remember their learning and spot examples of these kinds of lines in different places!

In History, the children continued their learning of the Romans. They explored how new inventions like roads and bridges had a significant effect on life in Britannia. The children also learned about the construction of roman towns in more detail and made some amazing Roman Road models.

In PSHE, the children drew a family portrait and discussed how families provide important things like safety, care and love.

Please continue to support your child with their home learning, spellings and reading each week. Home learning tasks are given out every Thursday and are due the following Thursday. We are using the iPads regularly in different subjects so please remind your child to recharge their iPad so that is ready to use at school each day.

Many thanks,
