Summer 1 - Week 3
Date: 9th May 2025 @ 8:32am
In English this week, the children have been busy writing their diary entry. They have written from the perspective of Boudicca, before her battle against the Roman army. They applied their learning from the last couple of weeks, making sure they used past tense verbs, interesting adjective choices and emotive language.
In Maths, the children recapped how to answer addition and subtraction questions using the column method. They learned how to round 2-digit numbers to the nearest 10 and how to estimate the answers to addition and subtraction questions using this skill.
In History, the children continued their learning of the Romans. They explored why the Romans wanted to invade Scotland and why they were unsuccessful. They also learned about why Emperor Hadrian built Hadrian's Wall and its significance. The children also explored life in a Roman fort by using historical research.
In BSL, the children continued learning how to confidently sign numbers to 20. They had to watch Mrs Holt closely and answer questions by noting down the numbers she was signing.
To commemorate VE day and its 80th anniversary, the children discussed why we celebrate VE day today and created a class wreath.
Please continue to support your child with their home learning, spellings and reading each week. Home learning tasks are given out every Thursday and are due the following Thursday. We are using the iPads regularly in different subjects so please remind your child to recharge their iPad so that is ready to use at school each day.
Next week we will be creating model Roman roads, so we have asked the children to have a look over the next week for some rocks/pebbles to help with this. Please can these by in school by Thursday 15th May.
Star of the week – Sharvil (for his continuous efforts in reading).
