 1, Week 3 Blog

English: This week in English, the children were busy writing their diary entries. They pretended to be a legionary soldier about to fight in the Roman army against Boudicca. They wrote excellent sentences using adjectives, emotive language and interesting fronted adverbials to begin their sentences.

Maths: This week, we recapped division. We started by practising the skills for bus stop method before moving onto division with remainders. The children used Dienes counters to practise the method practically. At the end of the week, the children practised answering word problems so they could practise bus stop method.

History: The children learned about what happened when the Roman army tried to invade Scotland and didn’t succeed! The children worked in pairs to gather information about why the mission failed. They learned about Hadrian’s Wall and why it was built and then learned about life in a Roman fort. Can your child remember some facts that they learned this week?

PSHE: The children are going to be focusing on a unit on diversity this half term. This week, the children shared information about their families. We looked at some pictures showing different family units and we discussed what was similar and different about each one. The children then drew a family photo and labelled it with key things about their family members.

R.E: This week the children have learnt about Ramadan and Eid. They learnt about what these celebrations are, what people do during these celebrations and why they are important to Muslims.

International Workers Day: This week the children took part in International Workers Day. It was lovely to see all the children dressed up as workers! We had a lovely lady visit us from Severn Trent to talk to us all about our water.

Thank you for your continued support in helping your child complete weekly home learning tasks, spellings and reading at home.

·      Please ensure that Ipads are recharged at home ready to use.

·      PE days will be Tuesdays and Wednesdays this half term.
