Starfish Summer 2, Week 1
Date: 4th Jun 2026 @ 8:04am
Our last half term together!
We really don’t know where the time has gone- how can we be entering our last half term as the Super Starfish already!
It was lovely seeing all the children’s happy faces on Tuesday and it sounds like there has been lots of ‘fun in the sun’ over the half term break! The children returned ready and eager to learn (as always) and settled well into the new classroom environment.
In maths, we got straight into weighing- thinking carefully about grams and kilograms. We used 2 different types of scales to weigh a variety of food and classroom items. Before the children could start weighing, they had to use their estimating skills- we were very impressed with just how close some children were! The first type of scales we used were balancing scales- whereby the children had to place gram weight onto one side of the scale to make the food and weights balance. The second type of scale was a kitchen scale whereby the children had to read the number of grams from the scale (looking carefully at where the arrow was pointing). The children completed a range of practical and written activities during the week.
In English, we have been looking at past tense words in preparation for recounting our castle trip. We revisited verbs first and acted these out- jump, hop, skip, walk etc. We then placed the verbs into past tense sentences, looking at ‘ed’ endings and irregular past tense words that must be changed – eat becomes ate etc. We were really impressed with the children’s knowledge and ideas and are looking forward to seeing this applied when writing about their school trip next week.
