Starfish Summer 1, Week 4

Date: 24th Jun 2026 @ 1:19pm

What a hot, busy week it has been! The children have thrown themselves into every challenge with enthusiasm, curiosity, and plenty of creativity- using our new continous provision areas excellently and doing all this whilst feeling a little hot and sweaty!

This week in maths, the children have been developing their understanding of how many minutes are in an hour, how to work out the number of minutes past an hour and how many minutes until the next hour.

They practised:

· Reading times such as 3:10 and 3:55 -working out that there are 10 minutes past the hour and 5 minutes to the next hour.

· Using clocks to make times

· Solving real-life problems like “If playtime starts at 10:25 how many minutes until 11:00?”

The children particularly enjoyed working in partners to pick a time card, then getting their partner to make that time on their clock. There were lots of smily faces during this activity!

In English, our classroom has been filled with imagination as the children finished, edited and published their fantasy castle descriptive pieces.

We focused on:

· Choosing powerful vocabulary to describe magical settings

· Editing sentences to improve cohesion and detail

· Using adjectives, adverbs and exciting openers

· Presenting final pieces with neat handwriting

It has been fantastic to see the children growing in confidence - whether calculating minutes, polishing their writing, or engineering moving parts (DT).

We would also like to thank everyone that came to the Summer Fayre- your support is very much appreciated.
