Starfish Summer 1, Week 1
Date: 16th Apr 2026 @ 10:32am
Welcome back!
We have had such a busy first week back! From our marvellous Monarch’s day to our visit from the RNLI, to starting our new units of work in Maths and English- it really has been a super busy week!
We started the week with our Monarch’s Day. The children looked fantastic in their suits, dresses and crowns. During the day, we learnt about different kings and queens from the past, made sparkling crowns, thought about what we would do if we were king/queen for the day and had a banquet! At the banquet we ate lots of fruits and veg, as well as having biscuits and crisps. After eating, we held a royal ball. The children danced beautifully together. At the end of the day, we held a Reigate coronation. It was so much fun!
On Tuesday, we had a special visit from a volunteer from the RNLI (linked to last half term’s work). We were shown a range of equipment including, helmets, uniforms, safety rings and a bag with a very very long rope in! The children asked some excellent questions and when watching the video clips- were amazed by the different types of rescue boats. As a school, we are very proud of supporting the RNLI and raising money to support them.
In Maths, we started our addition and subtraction unit. This week we have focused on missing number work and the positioning of the equal sign within a calculation. The children have worked mentally and with a 100 square to help support finding the correct answers. We will continue with this work next week, linking this to inverse operations.
In English, we also started a new unit – recount writing. We have been listing all of the events from our Monarch’s Day, thinking carefully about how to turn these ideas into a detailed report for Ms Ratcliff to read. We have looked at key features of recount writing- focusing on time adverbials and adjectives, ready to write our full recounts next week.
