Starfish Starfish Spring 2, Week 2
Date: 6th Mar 2026 @ 8:41am
What a wonderful day we had on Thursday! The children looked fabulous in their costumes, and we got to read a brand-new book The Great Green Island. The children did some fantastic artwork around the text- designing their own animal island through the lens of binoculars. World book day is always a favourite in school and really gives us the opportunity to celebrate our love of reading. A special day, enjoyed by all!
In maths, we revisited our addition and subtraction partitioning method for adding and subtracting 2 2-digit numbers. At the beginning of the week, we found this quite tricking, especially when ‘exchanging’ tens for ones in our subtraction strategy. By the end of the week, and with the help of manipulatives, the children were feeling much more confident and were applying these methods to help solve word problems. We are very proud of the children’s resilience- for not giving up when things are hard!
In English, we continued our unit on non- chronological reports. We have been focusing on grammar aspects of reports including commas in lists, conjunctions, expanded noun phrases and verbs. We have also looked at more examples of leaflets and the way in which they are set out- ready for planning and writing our own next week.
In PSHE this week, we focused on our understanding of what bullying is and what to do if it happens to us. The children learnt STOP as a way of understanding what bullying means- SERVERAL TIMES ON PURPOSE -and discussed lots of things we could do if we ever found this happening to us. From telling a trusted adult at school, to asking for help from a friend, to telling a grown up at home. The children had some very mature conversations around this subject. We are very proud of them!
