Starfish Autumn 1, Week 6
Date: 16th Oct 2025 @ 8:01am
What a busy week we have had! Aswell as all our usual lessons, the children have been taking part in ‘Black history’ week- learning even more about Rosa Parks and her amazing achievements. All the children made their own yellow bus and watched a powerful clip, telling the story of Rosa Park’s life in detail. As a class, we had such wonderful conversation about equality. This week in maths, we have been practising our division skills and have been using concrete objects and pictures to share and group. The children have been linking their division knowledge to their multiplication calculations from last week and are starting to understand that they are the inverse of each other. We have continued to practise counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s, as well as looking at our number bonds to 10.
In English, we have been continuing linking our writing to our significant people work by researching Neil Armstong and writing our own report all about his life. We have been joining our sentences with and but and because, as well as making sure we continue to write in the past tense. The children have also been focusing on their handwriting and punctuation- checking for letter size, capital letters and full stops.
During our afternoon lessons, we have been working in teams to research, make and present posters about a significant person of our choice. As a class, we produced posters on Florence Nightingale, Queen Victoria and Captain James Cook. We are really proud of each group being super brave and presenting their wonderful posters to us all.
