Starfish Autumn 1, Week 5
Date: 9th Oct 2025 @ 5:42pm
This week in maths, we have been practising counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s and linking these to our times tables. We have been chanting our times tables in full multiplication sentences and are trying hard to say them without pausing!!! We have also been looking at what multiplication is, repeated addition and grouping, and drawing our own representations of multiplication sentences. Using pictures and concrete objects has really helped the children understand multiplication.
In English, we have been linking our writing to our significant people work by researching Florence Nightingale and beginning to write our own report all about her life. We have been thinking about how to join our sentences together with conjunctions and making sure we are writing in the past tense. The Super Starfish have once again, amazed us with their knowledge and their eagerness to get their ideas down on paper.
Rosa Parks has been our focus for our Movers and Shakers project this week. We researched her achievements by watching clips, looking at pictures and reading different texts. The children have started to think carefully about all the significant people that they have studied and have begun to make links. They linked Rosa to Martin Luther Kinga and Katherine Johnson.
