This week is national Sign Language Week, which is celebrated each year in March.  The theme this year is ‘United in Sign’, a celebration of unity, pride and collective action around sign languages and Deaf culture.  The British Deaf Association has run Sign Language Week since 2003, with the aim of encouraging more people of all ages to learn BSL and find out more about the language and culture of the Deaf, Deafblind and hard of hearing British people who use BSL as their first / preferred language.

In school, all of our children have weekly BSL lessons, from nursery to Year 6.  At the start of each term, we also teach them about Deaf Awareness and Deaf culture as part of these lessons.  We are proud of the way our deaf and hearing children grow and learn together, understanding more about each other’s language cultures.

 Challenge yourself to learn the BSL alphabet this week:
