Spring 2 Week 5

Date: 28th Mar 2024 @ 3:24pm

Take a look at what the Wonderful Woodpeckers have been learning about this week…

Maths

This week, the children have been working on Geometry. The have been identifying, comparing and ordering angles. Also, they have looked at translating a single point.

English

During this week, the children have continued exploring poetry. They created their own acrostic poems on a theme of their choice.

Other Areas

This week, in Topic the children have been looking at animal art and have sketched their own dogs using a variety of shading techniques. It has been great to hear them using technical language such as hatching and stippling, as well as getting really engrossed in their sketches.

The children really enjoyed showing the work they have done this term to their grownups during the Year 4 Showcase on Wednesday. It was lovely to end this week with the Easter Bonnet parade. The children created some fabulous bonnets which they were proud to share with each other.

Achievements:

Easter Bonnet Winner

Well done to Molly, the children from Busy Bees randomly voted for your Easter Bonnet to win the competition.

Red Nose Day - Being Funny for Money

A big round of applause to Phoenix and Florence for making the class laugh with their comedy sketch. Well done!

Ancient Egyptian Day

Dear parents/carers,

Our topic next term is Ancient Civilisations, and one of the civilisations we will be learning all about are the Ancient Egyptians. To begin our new topic with an exciting hook, we will have an Ancient Civilisations Day where children will be able to dress up as an Ancient Egyptian.

This will be on Thursday 18th April 2024 (The first Thursday back after half term)

Children can come either in costume or clothes similar to what the Ancient Egyptians wore. The children will also make their own Ancient Egyptian style headdress or collar on the day.

As well as themed Maths and English, and craft activities, the children be making an Ancient Egyptian style flatbread. The recipe includes plain flour, salt, yeast and olive oil. We will send out a form on the first week back so you can let us know if your child has an allergy to any of these ingredients.

We can’t wait to see your fabulous outfits!

Thank you for your support,

Year 4 Team.
