Spring 2, Week 5 Monkeys' Blog
Date: 27th Mar 2026 @ 2:34pm
Week 5:
English:
This week in English, the children explored a range of different types of poetry. They looked at rhyming poems, limericks, acrostic poems, and poems featuring literary devices such as alliteration and onomatopoeia. The children especially enjoyed creating their own limerick poems.
Maths:
In Maths, the children revisited the topic of data. They explored pictograms, tally charts, bar charts, and tables. They practised answering questions using the information presented and also created their own pictograms, tally charts, and bar charts based on data they collected themselves—recording what their classmates chose for lunch.
Art and Design Technology:
In Art this week, the children studied figure drawings and urban landscapes of the artist LS Lowry and created artwork in his style to show scenes from their school. The children really enjoyed sketching their own figures in the style of Lowry. In Design Technology, the children explored cam mechanisms. They experimented with different shaped cams before designing, making, and evaluating their own automaton toy. The children also enjoyed discovering how toys such as a ‘Jack-in-the-box’ work using these mechanisms.
Half-Term Holiday Homework:
Over the Easter holidays, the children have been set some home learning. One task is to create a Roman shield. We would greatly appreciate your support in helping your child make a shield large enough for them to ‘use’ during our Roman Day on Tuesday 14th April.
Thank you for your continued support.
We hope you have a lovely Easter break.
