Week 3

English:
This week in English, the children worked very hard writing their own Escape from Pompeii stories. They included detailed setting descriptions, using powerful adjectives and carefully chosen verbs. They also wrote about their character and what they were doing before Mount Vesuvius erupted. I was very impressed with their attention to detail and creativity.

Maths:
In Maths, the children revisited multiplication and division strategies. They recapped long multiplication and worked hard to improve their accuracy with times tables. They also practised the bus stop method for division. Please continue to practise these skills at home.

Art:
In Art, the children learned about figure sketching. They explored how different artists capture the human form in various ways. The children then had a go at drawing a footballer mid-kick, first sketching the outline of the body before adding extra details. They really enjoyed this activity.

PE:
In PE, the children have been enjoying learning hockey skills. They have learned how to hold a hockey stick correctly and how to control the ball by dribbling around cones. They have also enjoyed Dance, which has followed an ‘under the sea’ theme. They explored using their bodies in different ways to represent the movements of sea creatures.

Reminders:
• Please return your child’s permission slip for the Cinema trip next week.

  • Please remember that PE days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Please support your child in completing their home learning tasks, including reading at least three times a week.

Thank you for your continued support.
