Spring 2 Week 1

Date: 4th Mar 2024 @ 8:13am

Take a look at the Awesome Alligator's learning this week...

Maths

In Maths this week, the year 6 children have been learning about ratio and proportion. At the beginning of the week, we began by looking at how to identify ratio by comparing two values against each other. The children then used this knowledge to apply their learning into trickier reasoning and problem solving questions.

Here is an example of a question that the children tackled-

Katie is giving her party guests party hats using this ratio 2:1. There are 30 party hats altogether. 18 children come to the party. ½ of them choose a stripy hat.

How many children get a stripy hat?

How many children get a spotty hat?

How many spare stripy and spotty hats are there?

English

In English this week, the children have began a new writing unit. In Year 6, we are currently learning how to write a persuasive leaflet. This week, the children have been exposed to different persuasive leaflet examples and have idenified the features needed to write a good leaflet.

We have linked our persuasive writing to our topic 'Frozen Kingdoms', the children will be writing leaflets to persuade holidaymakers to visit the Arctic.
