Spring 2, Week 1
Date: 27th Mar 2026 @ 10:26am
English:
This week in English, the children have continued to look at the story titled ‘Escape from Pompeii’. They have acted out the story in groups and created their own story maps. They have written brilliant setting descriptions using powerful adjectives. Towards the end of the week they started to use all of their current work to plan their own version of the story ready to write up next week.
Maths:
In Maths, the children revisited addition and subtraction. They have used their prior knowledge and selected the suitable methods to calculate addition and subtraction. They have also practised addition and subtraction with 1 and 2 exchanges.
Science:
In Science this week, the children explored have explored forces and magnets. They have learnt what a force is and what types of forces there are. They have identified what a contact/non-contact force is and described them. They have investigated and compared frictional forces between a shoe and five different surfaces. They used force meters to do this and recorded their findings in a table.
World Book Day:
On Thursday, children took part in celebrating World Book Day. They looked at the book, “The Great Green Island” by Becky Colvin. In whole class reading, the children had the chance to explore the text and answer inference questions. In the afternoon they drew some fantastic pictures of their own Great Green Crocodile Island and included what they thought they would place in it. They also completed book reviews on the book.
