Week 2:
This week in English, the children have been developing key skills to support their story writing about Mary Anning. They have practised making interesting adjective and verb choices to describe the seaside town of Lyme Regis, as well as creating vivid descriptions of a storm. The children have also worked on writing similes and using speech marks accurately to show dialogue between characters.
In Maths, the children recapped addition and subtraction using the column method. We practised questions that involved regrouping (addition) and exchanging/borrowing (subtraction).
In Geography, the children learned about fossils and how they are formed. They also carried out research on Mary Anning to help them understand why she is a significant historical figure. Ask your child if they can tell you a fact about her! The children also explored plate tectonics and learned how they can cause earthquakes.
In PSHE, the children learned about what bullying is, focusing on the idea that it is a repeated and intentional act carried out by another individual. They read stories to help them understand how characters might be feeling and discussed how they would respond in different situations.
In PE, the children have been developing their skills in Tag Rugby and Basketball.
