Sharks Summer 2 Week 5

Date: 3rd Jul 2026 @ 4:29pm

Busy, Busy, Busy!

We have had another busy and exciting week in Year 2, full of learning across the curriculum!

In Maths this week, the children have been learning all about block graphs and pictograms, with a particular focus on reading different scales. They explored scales that count up in 2s, 5s and 10s, helping them to read the graphs accurately and confidently. The children worked hard to interpret the data, answering questions such as:

· Which item is the most popular?

· Which item is the least popular?

· How many more chose one option than another?

· How many fewer chose a different option?

They showed great focus when counting carefully, using the scale correctly, and explaining their answers using mathematical language. We were really impressed with their growing confidence when working with data.

In English, we have started an exciting new unit of work based on non-chronological reports about castles. The children have been busy exploring lots of fascinating facts and learning more about what castles are and why they were built. This week, we focused on identifying the key features of a non-chronological report, including:

· A clear title

· Subheadings

· Factual sentences

· Pictures and captions

The children also enjoyed deciding which sentences belonged under which subheading and answering a range of questions all about castles. They showed great enthusiasm and curiosity, especially when learning about different parts of a castle and how people lived in them long ago. We are really looking forward to starting to write our own non-chronological reports next week, where the children will use everything they have learned so far.

In Design and Technology, the children began a new unit of work- Cut and Stitch. We have been looking at a range of products, thinking about how they are made and their purpose. We have particularly been focusing on products by Cath Kidston- which will hopefully inspire our own designs next week!

Well done, Year 2, for another fantastic week of learning!
