Sharks Summer 1 Week 4
Date: 8th May 2026 @ 4:53pm
A short week!
We have been super busy this week- fitting 5 days of learning into 4! We have continued our Kings and Queens topic, focusing on key queens from the past. These have included Elizabeth II, Elizabeth I and Victoria. We discovered that Elizabeth II is England’s longest reigning king or queen ever and that Victoria wore black every day after her husband died! We also discovered she was the first queen to wear a white wedding dress! The children learnt that Queen Elizabeth I was a fierce queen who learnt many different languages and proved that a woman was able to rule successfully without help from a husband.
In maths, we moved our learning on to measure- focusing on M, C, and MM. The Super Sharks spent 2 days using rulers and metre sticks to accurately measure objects both inside and outside of the classroom. The children worked independently and in pairs, using key vocabulary like longer, shorter, difference etc. We then compared measure using our greater and less than symbols, thinking carefully about what the measurements said e.g. 3cm or 3m.
In English, we continued with our Paddington Bear unit of work. We focused on expanded noun phrases, conjunctions and verbs- using pictures from the text to help construct our sentences. The children were excellent at recognising verbs within a sentence and changing them for a better, more powerful one. We also practised our handwriting and spelling. We are very impressed with the children’s improved spelling scores too- keep up the hard work Sharks!
