Sharks Summer 1 Week 2
Date: 1st May 2026 @ 8:28am
Forest Fun!
The Sharks had their first Forest School lesson this week and we all enjoyed it so much! We reminded ourselves of all the outdoor learning rules from year 1 and played ‘123’ come find me. The children were excellent at working together to find places to hide within our woodland area and were also so caring towards the insects that they found. We are looking forward to next week’s natural art lesson- creating people with sticks!
This week in maths, we have continued our addition work moving on to application within word problems. Some children even moved on to 2 step problems! The children are now super confident at using our partitioning addition method to solve 2 digit plus 2 digit calculations- great work Sharks! Later in the week, we looked at odd and even numbers- learning a ‘number cruncher’ song to help us remember which numbers are which. We enjoyed performing this and it really supported the children’s learning.
In English, we published our Monarch recounts. The children used some amazing vocabulary and time adverbials, placing our special day’s events in the correct order. Once again, the children’s handwriting was fantastic, as was their editing skills. They are very confident at spotting their own mistakes and correcting them. Super Sharks!
We continued our Kings and Queens work in topic, presenting our royal residence posters to each other. We then looked at a timeline of key Kings and Queens from the past- looking at dates and discussing how many years ago they ruled. In PE, we moved on to a dance unit of work- this week focusing on a beat of 8. The children worked in teams to create their own 8 beat dance actions- there were some amazing ideas!
