Sharks Spring 2 Week 1

Date: 26th Feb 2026 @ 8:28am

Welcome back!

We have started Spring 2 off with a bang! We had a special music assembly on Tuesday, whereby the children got to see lots of instruments being played, followed by a ks1 workshop. The children enjoyed every minute, with some saying that they have been inspired to take up lessons! We have also started our PE gymnastics unit of work working with a DCC (Derby County Community Trust) sports coach. We will be learning different jumps, rolls and balances. We are aiming to be Olympic gymnasts by the end of our 5-week unit!

In maths, we started our position and direction unit of work. We have completed lots of practical learning- involving moving our bodies in different directions- left, right, forwards, backwards, clockwise etc. We also used maps to direct pirates to their treasure! We have continued recalling our doubles at speed and linking these to our 2 times tables. We are becoming very speedy at this!

In English, we have started out new unit on non- chronological reports. We have been looking at examples of leaflets all about different coastlines in the UK, ready for writing our own. We have researched key features, focusing on subheading and thinking carefully about which information goes where.

In our Topic lessons, we have started our first ‘mini project’ called plant survival. We have looked at different seeds, predicting what they will turn into. We then moved on to understanding the germination process, watching lots of clips to help us understand this further. We are looking forward to carrying out very own cess seed investigation next week.
