Shark’s Weekly Blog (Autumn 1 week 3)
What a busy week of learning we have had! The children having been making positive learning choices in our provision areas and it has been lovely to see lots of team work taking place.
This week in Maths, we have been comparing numbers using the greater than (>) and less than (<) symbols. We learned that the symbols look like a crocodile’s mouth, and the crocodile always wants to eat the bigger number! We have also been using tens and ones manipulatives to build and represent different numbers. We worked hard on understanding the value of the tens digit in a two-digit number and how it tells us how many tens are in the number. The children showed great confidence making numbers and explaining their thinking. As we became more secure with tens and ones, we even challenged ourselves by moving on to hundreds, tens and ones (HTO)!
In English, we continued exploring the story Couch Potato and worked hard to write a beginning, middle and end, explaining all of the things that Couch Potato got up to throughout the story. We practised writing our sentences in the past tense, using the conjunction and to join our ideas together, and remembering our capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. This was the children’s first piece of independent writing in Year 2, and we are proud of the effort and enthusiasm they showed. Well done, Sharks!
In Topic, we have been learning about how exercise helps to keep our bodies healthy and active.
As always- we look forward to another exciting week of learning ahead!
