Shark’s Weekly Blog (Autumn 1 week 6)

What a great week we have had in Year 2!

Maths

This week, we have been learning how to add numbers by partitioning. The children used concrete resources and pictorial representations to help them understand how numbers can be broken apart and recombined. They showed great effort and determination throughout their learning. Some of the children even challenged themselves further by regrouping when adding across a tens boundary, which was wonderful to see.

English

In English, we completed our instructional writing based on the text Mrs Armitage's Bike. The children came up with some amazing ideas which they then turned into clear and detailed instructions. We were particularly impressed with their use of time adverbials and expanded noun phrases to make their writing engaging and easy to follow. The children should feel incredibly proud of their efforts- we certainly are!

Geography

The children thoroughly enjoyed completing their Map Masters unit this week. Using Google Earth, they explored the local area and successfully located our school, as well as nearby shops and parks. They demonstrated an excellent understanding of map symbols and enjoyed thinking about the wider world around them. We have also been practising our geography knowledge, and the children are becoming brilliant at singing the 7 Continents Song!

Well done, Year 2, for another week of hard work and enthusiasm.
