What a wonderful week of learning and celebration we have had in Year 2!

English

This week, we continued exploring the story Mrs Armitage on Wheels. Our focus was on using time adverbials such as first, next, after that and finally to help us sequence and retell events in the correct order. The children worked hard to organise the story and use these words to make their writing flow clearly. We also revisited our learning from last week on expanded noun phrases, giving children the opportunity to embed this knowledge into their writing by adding more detail and description.

Maths

In Maths, we continued our work on adding multiples of 10 using a 100 square. Once we were confident with this, we moved on to adding numbers by jumping forward on a number line, then across to add the ones. The children used a range of manipulatives to support their understanding, especially to support their understanding of bridging through to the next ten. It has been fantastic to see their confidence growing as they tackle increasingly challenging calculations.

Black History Week

As part of our Black History Week learning, Year 2 explored the work of Lubaina Himid. We were inspired by her beautiful nature-based artwork and created our own natural art pictures, using colours, shapes and patterns found in the natural world. The children showed great creativity and produced some wonderful pieces of art.

Global School Day

We also enjoyed a very special Global School Day, focusing on "Lands of Belonging: A History of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Britain." It was wonderful to see so many children proudly dressed in their cultural clothing and sharing aspects of their heritage. Throughout the day, we celebrated the diversity within our school community and learned about the rich histories and cultures that help make our school such a special place. The children showed great respect, curiosity and enthusiasm as they explored and celebrated different cultures together.
