Sharks Autumn 1 Week 2

Date: 19th Sep 2025 @ 4:47pm

Clever Sharks!

The Super Sharks have had another great week! They have amazed us with their fantastic knowledge of significant people from the past. As a class we discussed who we thought was the most significant person and gave our reasons why. Emmeline Pankhurst and Rosa Parks got the most Shark votes. We also made a timeline of our significant people, learning that Christopher Columbus was born nearly 600 hundred years ago compared to Neil Armstrong who was born only 95 years ago!

In maths, we have been continuing our work on place value, focusing on ordering numbers up to a 100. We have learnt to look at the first digit and check how many tens are in each number, then move on to the ones. We used our greater and less than symbol and base 10 equipment to support us with our ordering. Gracie- Mae showed excellent ordering skills- and used her knowledge to solve a variety of number problems.

In English, we have been continuing our narrative unit- linking all our work to The Magic Pencil. We have been using conjunctions to link our sentences together. We have also looked at how to start our sentences using a range of when and where openers. On Friday, we planned our own version of the story, ready for our independent write next week- we cannot wait to read them!

On Friday, we had our special Global celebration day. During the day we learnt lots about the countries our friends come from. Neriah showed us her beautiful traditional dress and shared lots of information about life in Nigeria. Etta came in a traditional Welsh dress and shared some information she has learnt from her mums experiences of living in Wales. During the afternoon, we welcomed Casey and Chiboukem's mum to our classroom and asked them lots of excellent questions about school life in Hong Kong and Nigeria. We learnt that while there are some similarities, there are also lots of significant differences between our school and the schools they experienced. We were very shocked to learn that running was NOT allowed during playtime in Hong Kong!

Star of the week- Chizurum- for sharing his excellent knowledge of Vincent Van Gough with the rest of the Sharks.

Star writer- Joel for using great conjunctions in his writing.
