Perfect Penguins- Summer 1 Week 1

Welcome back Year 5, I hope you had an amazing holidays and time with friends and family!

English
On Wednesday, we learned that our next writing unit is going to be to write a character description of one of the characters from the Hamlet.  We then learned what features we would need to include in our character description and recapped our learning on figurative and descriptive language.

Maths
This week in Maths, we have been recapping our addition and subtraction skills. On Wednesday, we pushed our knowledge of column addition by looking at how to add three numbers together. On Thursday, we did the same with column subtraction. At the end of the week, we put our learning together and looked at how to solve multi-step problems.

Other Subjects
On our second day back we had an absolutely amazing day celebrating Ancient Greek day! It was amazing to see everyone’s ancient Greek costumes and the effort everyone had put in. Firstly, we spent some time creating our own Laurel Wreaths, using paper plate and paper leaves. Next, we learned all about the Greek alphabet and wrote our names in Greek on our own bookmarks. In the afternoon, we learned about famous Greek mathematicians and solved a maths mystery! After this, we were challenged to channel Ancient Greek architects and build our own bridges out of paper.
