Perfect Penguins Autumn 1 week 1

Date: 11th Sep 2026 @ 4:08pm

What a wonderful start to the new school year we have had in Year 5! It has been lovely to welcome all of the children back into the classroom. They have returned with positive attitudes, excellent behaviour and a real enthusiasm for learning. We are already incredibly proud of the effort and determination they have shown throughout their first week.

In History, we have begun exploring the fascinating Shang Dynasty. The children have enjoyed discovering where and when the Shang people lived and learning about why this ancient civilisation was so important. They have been asking thoughtful questions and showing great curiosity as we start our journey back in time.

In Mathematics, our focus has been place value. The children have been developing their understanding of numbers, partitioning them into thousands, hundreds, tens and ones, and comparing and ordering numbers with confidence. They have worked hard to explain their reasoning and tackle a range of challenging activities.

In English, we have started looking at narrative writing. The children have explored the features of exciting stories and begun creating their own imaginative ideas.

It has been a busy and successful first week, and it has been wonderful to see the children settling back into routines so quickly. We are looking forward to all the exciting learning opportunities that this term will bring.

Well done, Perfect Penguins. Keep up the fantastic work.
