What an exciting week we have had in Year 5!

The children thoroughly enjoyed our special Shang Dynasty Experience Day. Through drama activities, they stepped back in time and explored what life was like in Ancient China. They also created some fantastic artwork inspired by the Shang Dynasty. One of the highlights of the day was working together to make a magnificent year group dragon, which will be proudly displayed in the corridor for everyone to admire.

In Maths, we have continued developing our understanding of place value. The children have been reading, writing, ordering and comparing numbers, as well as explaining their mathematical thinking using precise vocabulary.

In English, we focused on using subordinate clauses to add extra detail and interest to our writing. We also explored parenthesis, learning how brackets, dashes and commas can be used to provide additional information for the reader. The children have worked hard to apply these skills in their own writing.

To finish the week, we had a brilliant time visiting the Big Book Bus on Friday. The children loved exploring the wide range of books available and sharing recommendations with their friends. It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm for reading, and many children left inspired to discover new authors and stories.
