Clever Koalas - Summer 1 - Week 3

Date: 8th May 2025 @ 2:49pm

We begin this week with a huge congratulations to Thea for being awarded Star of the Week.  She has been working particularly hard the last couple of weeks in maths – we have been focusing on negative numbers and Thea  has shown great understanding of this. WELL DONE Thea!

Another well deserved well done goes to Sophie who achieved Star Writer this week for their concentration when working on improving their handwriting.

This week has flown by, school being shut on Monday has definitely made this week rush by.  In maths this week we have been learning all about Roman Numerals, this topic is definitely a tricky one.  The Koalas have worked hard to remember the 3 main rules when reading and writing Roman Numerals – please ask them to tell you what these are.

We had an exciting day in class on Thursday as we celebrated 80 years of VE Day. The children looked fantastic all dressed up in red, white and blue and enjoyed learning about the meaning of VE day.  We watched some Newsround specials regarding VE Day and learnt about how World War II affected children their age.  The Koalas also enjoyed some different activities in the afternoon, including creating their own Spitfire Paper Aeroplane and making some Union Jack bunting for our classroom.

Also on Thursday all of the children at Reigate got the opportunity to choose a book from Madeleine Lindley book shop in the studio. This is for them to keep at home for free and add to the Reigate Library – hopefully they have their other books still from year 4 and 3!

On Monday next week our Year 6 children will start their SATs – good luck to everyone in Year 6 – do your best! That is all that we can ask!
