Clever Koalas - Spring 1 - Week 1

Date: 9th Jan 2026 @ 4:59pm

Happy New Year!! The Koalas have had an excellent, short week to begin 2026! Friday this week saw school shut due to Storm Goretti covering us in snow! We hope everyone had a fun day and were able to spend some outside enjoying the snow before it melts and leaves us until…next time.  Due to the school closure there was no Star of the Week or Star Writer this week.

Mrs McIlroy welcomed everyone back on Monday and started a new book in Whole Class Reading: Farm Boy by Michael Morpurgo. The children have enjoyed starting reading this book and will be writing a diary entry in English linked to one of the characters in Farm Boy.

On Wednesday we began a new music unit called ‘Building a Groove’ is this unit we will explore how music is built up to create a full piece. This week we focused on the importance of drums – we learnt all the different drums used in a full drum kit and obviously had a go ourselves on a range of drums. This was a very noisy, however a very much enjoyed lesson!

In Maths we having been learning about negative numbers which has linked very well with the weather outside! We related negative numbers to temperature, the floors in a building and bank accounts!

On Tuesday 20th January at 2.45pm we will be hosting a Year 5 Showcase of the work we have already completed this year, more information regarding this will be sent out next week.

Have a lovely weekend in the snow!
