Clever Koalas - Autumn 1 - Week 6

Date: 16th Oct 2025 @ 5:40pm

A big congratulations to Theo for achieving being Star of the Week this week. Theo was chosen to receive this award for always working hard in class, he demonstrates excellent enthusiasm when he is confident about his learning and is always willing to help others.  Well done for a fantastic start to Year 5.

Star Writer this week is Darcie-Rose, has been chosen for their fantastic published narrative – see the picture below!

In Whole Class Reading this week we have been reading and exploring a poem called Chinese New Year, the children have thoroughly enjoyed all the aspects of this, however they did find some of the tasks tricky, such find counting the syllables in each line. On Thursday this week the children got into small groups and chose a verse from the poem to act out.  Well done to those who performed these to the rest of the class who then guessed which verse they were acting out. This lesson was enjoyed by all of the Koalas and we got to see some excellent acting skills!!

In English this week we started publishing our narratives based in Ancient China. The children are working hard to remember our key steps to producing the best handwriting that they can! Please ask them what BBC and TNT mean – hopefully they will be able to explain these to you.

Thank you to everyone who attended parents evening this week, Mrs Dewsbury and Mrs McIlroy really enjoy seeing you all and being able to let you know how your child is doing at school and how they have settled into Year 5. If you came to parents evening on Thursday you may have noticed our new Science display hanging in the school reception area. This highlights some of the main teaching areas in Science at Reigate Park and will hopefully help promote the use of this vocabulary throughout school.

Enjoy your weekend, one week left of our first half term!
