Clever Koalas- Autumn 1 Week 4

Maths

In Maths, we have been exploring perimeter and learning how to find the distance around different shapes. The children tackled a range of challenges and became much more confident at adding side lengths accurately.

We have also been learning how to multiply numbers by 10, 100 and 1,000. A particular highlight was learning the line method, which helped us to see clearly how the digits move when multiplying by powers of ten. The children enjoyed practising this new strategy and explaining their thinking to their partners. We were very impressed with how quickly they picked up this new skill!

English

This week, we began our exciting new English unit about Fu Hao, the famous Shang Dynasty queen, military leader and priestess. The children were fascinated to learn about her remarkable achievements and were eager to find out more about her life.

We also explored what a biography is and discussed the key features we will need when we begin writing our own biographies about Fu Hao. The children identified that biographies tell the story of a real person's life and often include important events in chronological order, along with interesting facts and achievements. We are looking forward to carrying out more research before beginning our writing.

Other Subjects

Our learning about the Shang Dynasty continued this week, helping us to build our understanding of the period and the world in which Fu Hao lived. The children asked thoughtful questions and made excellent connections between what they have learned in History and what they are reading in English.

Across the curriculum, Koalas Class have continued to show fantastic attitudes towards their learning. It has been lovely to see children supporting one another, sharing ideas and approaching new challenges with confidence.
