Clever Koalas - Autumn 1 - Week 2

Congratulations to Max for being awarded the Star of the Week this week. Max has made a fantastic start in Year 5 and is showing excellent confidence when answering questions in class.  Max is always a good friend to his peers and super kind, well done Max!!  

Star Writer this week goes to Kyle for his excellent handwriting during English lessons this week, making sure his planning for his biography is neat and joined.   

In English and Topic we have continued our been learning all about The Shang Dynasty and the powerful female warrior Fu Hao.  We have begun to plan Fu Hao’s biography which we will be publishing next week. 

On Tuesday this week all of Year 5 spent the day celebrating everything to do with the Shang Dynasty.  The day began with some artwork focusing on creating Willow Pattern plates and sections of a Chinese dragon.  We then used the decorated plates to create a dragon across the top of our display in the classroom – see the photo below!  In the afternoon we participated in some drama activities in the studio, the children thoroughly enjoyed this and were very engaged. 

In Maths this week the Clever Koalas have been working hard on solving word problems.  The children have been using RUCSAC to help them understand what the questions are asking them to do and to make sure that they are answering the problem accurately.
