Awesome Alligators - Autumn 1 - Week 2

Happy Week Two!

The children are continuing with excellent maths skills this week, and we’ve moved on to applying our place value knowledge through word problems in the Awesome Alligators class. Everyone has worked hard to explain their thinking and are beginning to use their place value skills confidently. Well done, Year 6!

In History, we have begun looking at Maafa and the triangular slave trade, exploring how it began and developing our understanding of this important period of history. The children have approached the topic thoughtfully and have contributed some excellent ideas and questions to our discussions.

We are continuing to read Windrush Child, and the children are really enjoying listening to the story through Audible. We have to admit, the accents on Audible are definitely better than Mrs Cocker’s or Mrs Dewsbury’s attempts! It has been lovely to see the children so engaged with the story.

In gymnastics on Wednesday, we focused on trust, cooperation and communication through a range of partner balances. There was lots of fantastic evidence of all three skills throughout the lesson, with children supporting and encouraging one another brilliantly.

On Friday, we had the exciting arrival of the Reading Bus at school! The children really enjoyed having the opportunity to go on board and browse the books, and lots of great, very reasonably priced purchases were made.

A huge thank you to everybody who supported the Reading Bus. Thanks to your support, the school has been able to purchase many more books for our school library, which all of our children will be able to enjoy.
