Awesome Alligators - Autumn 1 - Week 1

Welcome back Year 6 and welcome to the Awesome Alligators!

What a fantastic first week back we have had! It has been wonderful to welcome all of our children back to Reigate Park after the summer holidays. The children have settled into Year 6 brilliantly, and we are so excited for all the learning, challenges and special memories ahead.

In Maths, the Awesome Alligators have started by looking at place value. This is such an important area of maths, as our understanding of place value will be used throughout all of our numeracy work in Year 6. The children have made a super start and are already showing some fantastic mathematical thinking.

In English, we are beginning our work based on the novel Windrush Child. The children will be stepping into the shoes of the character Leonard and writing a diary entry, thinking carefully about how we can bring thoughts, feelings and experiences to life.  We will be exploring informal language and emotive language, considering how our choice of words can help the reader really understand how a character might be feeling. We can't wait to read the finished diary entries!

There has been LOTS of excitement about our new PE unit! On Friday afternoons, Year 6 will be developing their skills through dodgeball. It is safe to say that the children are very, very excited about this one!

Finally, a huge congratulations to Freddie, who is our very first Star Writer! What a brilliant way to begin Year 6 – well done, Freddie!

We have had such a positive start to the new school year and are incredibly proud of how well the Awesome Alligators have settled in. Here's to a fantastic year ahead!
