Autumn 2 Week 5

Date: 7th Dec 2023 @ 8:17am

This week in Maths, Reception have been looking at number bonds to five.  The children started their week by exploring how food can start as a ‘whole’ before being subsequently broken up into ‘parts’ as it gets eaten.  Having learnt this new concept, the Bears were very quick to use their knowledge at snack time as they started munching their way through apples and oranges!   Later in the week, the children began to explore how whole numbers could be broken up into parts.  Theo was particularly good at using practical counting equipment to split five in different ways.  What a star :)

In Literacy, we have read and explored the story of ‘The Big Bad Pig’.  The children were fascinated by the alternative version of the original ‘Three Little Pigs’ story.  Everybody in some way was able to describe the differences between the two books.  Mrs Pericleous and the Bears were very shocked to learn the Big Bad Pig used a pneumatic drill to break the house of bricks down.  EEK those poor little wolves!

The children very much enjoyed their ‘Treasure Island’ themed panto.  There were lots of ‘oh no he isn’t!’ and ‘he’s behind you!’ moments.  A lovely treat during these final weeks leading up to Christmas.  Another successful week. Well done, Bears
