Autumn 2 - Week 3
Date: 21st Nov 2025 @ 8:39am
Week 3:
This week in English, the children were busy writing their fact files about the human skeleton. They worked hard to use the topic vocabulary they have been learning in Science. They also focused on using interesting sentence openers to begin their sentences in engaging ways, as well as conjunctions to stretch their ideas and add detail.
In Maths, the children learned how to solve multiplication and division questions using the grid method. They followed the steps carefully to ensure that the numbers were set out correctly and became much more confident with this method as the week went on. The children also learned about the commutative law—for example, if they know that 3 × 4 = 12, then 4 × 3 = 12, and 12 ÷ 4 = 3.
In Science, the children learned about animals with no skeletons, animals with skeletons on the inside of their bodies (endoskeletons), and animals with skeletons on the outside (exoskeletons). They sorted animals into the correct groups and discussed some of the advantages and disadvantages of having a skeleton on the inside or outside of the body. They also worked in teams to answer a research question linked to all of their learning about the human body and presented their findings to the class.
In PSHE, the children learned about the importance of exercise and why we should aim for one hour of physical activity each day. They shared the types of exercise they enjoy and talked about how these activities make them feel—for example, energised, strong, or calm.
