Autumn 2, Week 1 Monkeys' Class Blog

Week 1:

In English this week, the children began learning about fact files. Their first mission was to work as a team to put a human skeleton back together bone by bone and label some of the most important bones in the body. They then read some good examples of fact files about the human body and identified important features e.g topic vocabulary and conjunctions to help write detailed paragraphs. At the back end of the week, the children explored new topic vocabulary for the project which will help them in the coming weeks when they begin to write their own sentences about the human skeleton.

In Maths, the children learned how to solve addition and subtraction questions using the column method. They did really well with this and remembered how to set the numbers out correctly underneath each other.

In Science, the children explored what nutrition and a healthy diet is. We looked at the Eatwell Guide and learned about the different food categories including protein, carbohydrates, dairy and fruit and vegetables. On Wednesday, we carried out an experiment to investigate fat in food products. The children had to squash crisps, a fairy bun, brioche roll and croissant down onto a paper towel and leave for 30 mins. We then took a look at the grease mark that was left which shows that the product contains fat. Our conclusion was that the fairy bun contained the most fat due to the large, dark mark lthat was eft on the paper towel. When looking at the ingredients, we realised that the fairy bun contained butter and oil.

In RE, the children learned about Christianity and what religious symbols a Christian may have in their house and what those symbols represent

Thank you for your support in helping the children create some wonderful Skeleton projects during the half term!
