Week 8: The Monkeys Class Update
English
This week, the children published their non-chronological reports about The Stone Age, focusing on neat and clear handwriting. We also explored some poetry and learned how to use similes — for example, “The car was as fast as a cheetah.”
Maths
In Maths, we learned about measuring mass. The children recapped how to measure using grams and kilograms and practised reading scales accurately. They also completed some mini assessments covering place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
History
Our History lessons focused on the end of the Iron Age and the Roman invasion of Britain. To celebrate the end of our Stone Age topic, the children created fantastic posters showcasing everything they’ve learned this term.
RE (Religious Education)
In RE, the children discussed goals and aspirations and learned how Jewish people set these for themselves. They then thought about their own short-term goals (e.g., improving times tables) and long-term aspirations (e.g., future careers).
School Trip – Sheffield Manor Lodge (The Green Estate)
On Tuesday, we had a wonderful day out! The children:
-
Made their own spears and went “hunting” for deer
-
Tried their hand at archery
-
Worked as a team and built dens in the woods using logs and branches
-
Created their own Stonehenge monuments and discovered how Stone Age people moved the giant stones
-
Experienced cave painting by candlelight — a highlight of the day!
It was a fantastic hands-on experience that brought our topic to life.
Home Learning for the Holidays
Over the break, please continue to:
-
Read your school book (and others!) – perhaps you could visit a local library?
-
Practise times tables using Times Table Rockstars or ‘Hit the Button’ on Topmarks
-
Complete the Science project (details were sent home on Thursday). The projects are due on Thursday 6th November. Have fun learning about the human skeleton and making your very own skeletons – it ties in perfectly with Halloween!
Star of the Week: The whole Monkeys class – for their amazing participation during the school trip and for sharing all their knowledge.
Star Writer: Alisa
Attendance: 97.7%
Have a wonderful half-term break!
