Autumn 1 - Week 6

Date: 18th Oct 2026 @ 9:50pm

Another Fantastic Week in Year 6!

The Marvellous Meerkats have had another busy and enjoyable week filled with exciting learning opportunities across the curriculum. We are incredibly proud of the effort and enthusiasm the children have shown in all of their lessons.

πŸ”’ Maths

In Maths, the children have been learning about BODMAS and how to solve calculations involving the correct order of operations. They have also been developing their understanding of multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1,000, using their knowledge of place value to explain how digits move within a number. The children have worked hard to apply these skills and have shown increasing confidence in their mathematical reasoning.

πŸ“š English

In English, the children brought together all of their learning from the past two weeks to write a detailed setting description of Maroon Town and Grandma's house. They worked hard to incorporate a range of writing techniques, including expanded noun phrases, personification and relative clauses, to create engaging and vivid descriptions. We were delighted with the creativity and imagination shown in their finished pieces.

🌍 Topic

In Topic, the children learnt about the Abolition of the Slave Trade and explored the long journey towards the passing of the Act and the eventual abolition of slavery. They showed great maturity when discussing this important period in history and developed a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by those who campaigned for change.

πŸ•Œ RE

In RE, the children have enjoyed learning about the Five Ks of Sikhism. They asked thoughtful and sensitive questions which helped to deepen their understanding of Sikh beliefs and identity. To showcase their learning, the children created informative passports explaining the significance of each of the Five Ks.
