Autumn 1 - Week 5

Date: 6th Oct 2025 @ 12:54pm

This week in English, the children worked really hard to publish their 'Stone Age Boy' writing on special paper. They have worked really hard on their handwriting too! We also started our new unit of writing which is a focus on non-chronological reports. The children explored some different examples of these types of reports and studied their features e.g headings, subheadings and ‘amazing/fun fact’ boxes. The children also explored new vocabulary when reading a non-chronological report about the Stone Age.

In Maths, we focused on multiplication and division this week. The children learned how to write repeated addition and multiplication sentences about pictorial representations e.g If there are 3 plates with 5 cookies on each, the repeated addition sentence would be 5 + 5 + 5 = 15 cookies and the multiplication sentence would be 3 x 5 = 15. The children also learned about different division strategies, including drawing sharing circles to share the number or using their times table knowledge to support with answering these questions.

In History, the children learned about wealth and power in the Bronze Age. The children learned about tribal leaders and the kind of things they wore. The children drew their own pictures and labelled them with items of clothing e.g bronze shields or gold collars.

In RE, the children learned about prayer. They learned that Jewish people say prayers of gratitude throughout the day and thanked God for all the positive things in their life. We discussed what we are grateful for e.g our families and friends. The children created a mindmap of lots of different examples.

In PSHE, the children learned about how to share their opinions in a positive way with their peers. We looked at some questions together and the children shared their opinions and listened to their peers’ opinions. We realised that not everybody has the same opinions and that is a good thing!

Thank you for helping your child complete their weekly home learning tasks. Just a reminder that home learning is given out (on paper) every Thursday and must be brought back to school before the following Thursday.  Please support your child with reading at least 3 times a week. Please record all weekly reading in your child’s reading diary.

Thank you for your on-going support.
